1964-65 School Year at California State College at Fullerton

Newspaper--Volume 6 Titan Times expanded to a regular weekly schedule of eight (and sometimes more) pages. Adviser was J. William Maxwell.

Fall semester editor Dick Tarquinio edited 15 issues (plus an unnumbered Jan. 21 two-page "extra") from No. 5 through No. 19 (perhaps indicating four issues were published during summer 1964). Other editors were Richard Cattaneo, John Hardy, Mary Alice Kier, Judy Legan, Rich McDowell, Michael Shorb, Bob Smith and Don Tanner. Bill Flory was ad manager and Jon Haig assistant ad manager. Photographer was Bob Cunnan. Cheryl McElphatrick and Joe Tatar handled circulation. Staff included George Ball, Tom Burgnan, Eugene Kaplan and Roger Power.

Spring semester editor John Hardy edited 15 issues from No. 20 through No. 33 (with two Nos. 20, no No. 21 and two Nos. 24). Other editors were Tom Burgnon, Bob Cunnan (photo), Raoul Robles and Carleen Simonson. Eugene Kaplan was editorial assistant. Bill Flory was ad manager. Staff included George Ball, Donna Bayliff, Jim Drummond, Mike Easterbrook, Ruth Ewoldt, Don Lorenzi, Jim Manning, Dolores Mason and Betty McClure.  

Yearbook--The 1965 Titan contained 128 pages and was edited by Bob Cunnan with James Alexander as adviser. Staff included Jon Haig, Judy Legan, Dave Koch, Tom Burgnon, Donna Bayliff, Dorothy Beekman, Jim Drummond and Karen Hart.

Magazine--Titan Illustrated, Vol. 3, No. 1 (Winter 1965), was 32 pages edited by Ruth Ewoldt with James Alexander as adviser. Staff included Joe Tatar, Tom Burgnon, John Hardy, Rich McDowell, Mike Easterbrook, Evelyn Richardson and Dick Tarquinio.

Literary Magazine--The Promethean editor was Sondra Evans with Paulina Salz as adviser. Staff included Jerry Ostling, Mike Shorb, Mary Alice Kier, Joyce Rust, Diane Goodell and Mike Buhbe.

Notes--Rich McDowell was Publications Commissioner. The Journalism Department began calling itself the Communications Department, although the change didn't become official until the next school year. A Press Club was formed as an excuse to visit the 301 Club in Placentia with Eugene Kaplan as president. Members included Raoul Robles, Dolores Mason, Donna Bayliff, Carleen Simonson, Jim Manning, John Hardy, George Ball, Don Lorenzi, Bob Cunnan, Tom Burgnon, Jim Drummond, Rich McDowell and Mike Easterbrook with J. William Maxwell as adviser. The Titan Times began using a photo offset method of printing, combining hot lead typesetting by linotype machines with photo page negatives for making thin metal plates for presswork. Raynolds Johnson ran as a Democrat in a heavily Republican Orange County state assembly district. John Hardy and Eugene Kaplan were elected first and second vice presidents of the California Intercollegiate Press Assn. Winners at the group's convention included Don Tanner (second in features) and Rich McDowell (third in sports photography).  

Summer Newspaper--Four issues of the Summer Titan Times were published in June and July 1965 with Mike Warnken and Jim Drummond as editors and James Alexander as adviser. Staff included Marianne Pfingsgraff, Cheryl Tarquinio, Margaret Hall, Chuck Holloran, Jim Manning and Jon Haig.
